Strauss conjures a delightful two-part masterpiece, boasting some of the most delectable melodies to be found anywhere.  This enchanting comic opera spoofs the Greek myth of Ariadne (King Minos' daughter) abandoned by Theseus (who slew the Minotaur) and pits characters from Italian commedia dell'arte against operatic stereotypes.
